Cold Laser Therapy Minimizes Pain, Speeds Recovery

Ballantrae Plaza Veterinary Clinic is pleased to offer Theralase cold laser therapy for your dog or cat. Laser therapy is a noninvasive, scientifically proven, complementary treatment that minimizes pain, reduces inflammation, and expedites healing and recovery.

Cold laser therapy works by stimulating cells and cellular pathways using specific wavelengths of light emitted from a laser diode. Light energy is converted to chemical energy within the tissues of the body, thereby influencing specific biochemical pathways and altering cellular gene expression and metabolism. The low-dose laser delivers short and intense bursts of light energy without causing thermal damage to tissues.

While treatment times vary, they are typically no longer than 10 minutes in duration. Depending on your pet’s condition, the number and frequency of expected therapy sessions will be discussed. It is not uncommon to see a marked improvement after just one session! The procedure is painless and extremely well tolerated by pets. Often, we see them relax as soon as the laser session begins. You are also welcome to attend the laser sessions with your pet.

Conditions that may benefit from laser therapy include:

  • Wounds (including surgical wounds)
  • Muscle, tendon, and ligament injuries
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Ear infections
  • Lick granulomas

If your pet is suffering from chronic discomfort or limited mobility, our cold laser therapy can help. Please call us today to learn more about cold laser therapy and to find out whether it is right for your pet.
